Apresentação:

Artista francês nascido em 1986, formado pela École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués et des Métiers d’Arts em Paris e pela Royal College of Art em Londres. Tem colaborado com diversas instituições trabalhando com crianças e jovens em França, Portugal e Coreia do Sul.

Tanto no trabalho individual que transita entre desenho, gravura, fotografia ou vídeo, como nos programas criativos e formativos que desenvolve junto de públicos jovens, evidencia-se o interesse de Damien Monteau pela noção de fragmento visual, pela capacidade do desejo narrativo nascer do que se vê e se oculta, dos intervalos entre imagens ou justaposições significantes, do aleatório ou de acasos controlados.

As obras presentes na Tinta nos Nervos são o resultado de experiências com recurso à técnica da monotipia, por vezes pressionadas à mão outras utilizando uma prensa de maneira pouca convencional. Na repetição e combinação de gestos simples, Damien Monteau recolhe sobre papel padrões espontâneos da matéria. Juntos, sugerem possíveis continuidades, peças involuntárias de um puzzle, alusões minerais e orgânicas onde o distante e o próximo se confundem.

Damien Monteau

Overview:

French artist born in 1986 who graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués et Métiers d’Arts in Paris and the Royal College of Art in London. In parallel to his individual practice, he developed collaborative projects with children and young publics in schools and institutions in France, Portugal and South Korea.

Both in his personal work, that lives between drawing, printmaking, photography and video, as well as in the creative and educational workshops that he led, it becomes obvious that Damien Monteau’s interest is driven by the notion of the “visual fragment”, and by the capacity of a narrative desire to be born from what’s seen and hidden, from interval between images or significant juxtapositions emerging along the process.

The works that are presented at Tinta nos Nervos are the results of his experiments with the monotype technique, some pressed directly by hand, others using a press in some unconventional ways. By repeating and combining simple actions, Damien Monteau captured on paper unexpected movement of matter. When put together, they suggest possible continuities, like pieces of an involuntary puzzle, mineral and organic allusions in which the distant and the close merge.
