Mike Goes West

António Coelho (Lisboa, 1972) estudou na António Arroio, FBAUP, FBAUL, e ainda no Ar.Co. Tendo trabalhado em várias artes, acabou por se tornar uma importantíssima referência da arte serigráfica, fundando o seu atelier Mike Goes West, presentemente no Barreiro.

Através desta plataforma, MGW tem produzido serigrafias com os mais díspares artistas, galerias e instituições, nacionais e internacionais, com quem colabora.   É co-fundador da Associação Oficina do Cego e dá formação nos mais diversos locais.

A Tinta nos Nervos apresenta um conjunto de duas séries que MGW produziu em colaboração com autores de banda desenhada e ilustradores nacionais e estrangeiros, com uma curadoria de Marcos Farrajota, editor da Chili Com Carne. Eis as palavras que ambos escreveram para apresentarem os dos ciclos, os quais duraram de 2006 a 2021:


Colecção Comercio Tradicional

Uma série de cartazes realizados por ilustradores portugueses, climatizados pelo sentimento da globalização da economia, desenvolvem trabalhos em que os universos do realismo kitsch ternurento se confundem com deambulações fantasiosas.

Em liberdade criativa para explorar o tema do comércio tradicional, parte da preocupação gráfica dos artistas passou pelas potencialidades da técnica serigráfica de impressão


Colecção Checkpoint

Trata-se de um trabalho de serigrafias produzidas por artistas internacionais quando das suas visitas ocasionais a Portugal, sobretudo Lisboa.

Tal como os oficiais dos checkpoints, pedimos aos artistas em trânsito que deixem uma marca da sua passagem. Não propomos temas, mas apreciamos a sua verve gráfica.

Com este projecto, pretendemos criar um grupo internacional de expressões surpreendentes, através da serigrafia.


One-offs

Conjunto de serigrafias criadas por encomenda ou em relações directas com os artistas, fora dos âmbitos dos ciclos anteriores.

Mike Goes West

António Coelho (Lisbon, 1972) studied in António Arroio, FBAUP, FBAUL, and Ar.Co. Having worked on several fronts, we would grow into one of the most important contemporary references of silkprinting in Portugal. He runs his own studio, Mike Goes West, now in Barreiro.


Through his studio, MGW has been producing silkprinting in collaboration with the most diverse artists, both domestic and international, as well as galleries and institutions. He is also the co-founder of the Association Oficina do Cego, and he teaches in many places.


Tinta nos Nervos presents two series that have been created with national and international illustrators and comics artists, under the curatorship of Chili Com Carne ‘s chief editor, Marcos Farrajota. Here are the words that both wrote to present those two cycles, which lasted from 2006 to 2021:


Comércio Tradicional (“Traditional Commerce”)

Series A series of prints created by Portuguese illustrators, under the auspices of the globalization of economy, these are images in which a heart-touching kitsch realism comes face to face with daydreaming.

Having total freedom in how to represent traditional commerce, part of the graphic concern of these artists took the full potential of silkprinting. 


Checkpoint Series

Checkpoint is a work in progress of silkscreen posters, made by international artists during occasional visits to Lisbon, Portugal.

Like check point agents, we ask the artist in transit to leave a printed mark of his passage by.

We don’t propose a thematic manifestation, but we appreciate a sturdy graphic.

With this project we aim to create an international cluster of startling expressions, through the silkscreen medium. 


One-offs
A number of silkprints that have been created either as commissioned work or in direct collaboration with the artists, outside of the scope of the other two series.
